Emerald islands, sheltered coves and the gentlest sailing in Greece — the Ionian is the sea for unhurried days.
The Ionian is Greece in a softer key. Strung along the country’s western edge, its islands rise green and lush from calm, protected waters — a world away from the stark drama of the Aegean. Cypress and olive cloak the hills; the winds are light and forgiving; and the sailing is so gentle that the Ionian has long been the cruising ground of choice for families and those new to life under sail. Here, days unfold slowly: a morning swim in a glassy bay, lunch at anchor, an afternoon drift to the next island, and dinner in a harbour where the only sound is the rigging and the sea.
Several of our crewed catamarans sail the Greek islands, ready to show you the Ionian’s emerald calm from the deck.

The Ionian offers calm, sheltered waters and short hops between green islands, making it ideal for families, first-time charterers and relaxed cruising. The Cyclades are more dramatic and windier, suited to confident sailors. If your priority is ease, comfort and swimming over spectacle, the Ionian is the better choice.
Exceptionally so. The light winds, short distances and sheltered anchorages make it one of the most family-friendly cruising grounds in the Mediterranean. Children can swim safely, and the gentle sailing keeps everyone comfortable.
May to October. The Ionian stays calm throughout, even in peak summer, making July and August far more pleasant here than in the windy Cyclades. June and September offer the best balance of warmth and quiet.

Gentle and forgiving. Winds are typically light, distances short, and waters protected — relaxed cruising rather than performance sailing.
