The Region

The green sea.

The Ionian is Greece in a softer key. Strung along the country’s western edge, its islands rise green and lush from calm, protected waters — a world away from the stark drama of the Aegean. Cypress and olive cloak the hills; the winds are light and forgiving; and the sailing is so gentle that the Ionian has long been the cruising ground of choice for families and those new to life under sail. Here, days unfold slowly: a morning swim in a glassy bay, lunch at anchor, an afternoon drift to the next island, and dinner in a harbour where the only sound is the rigging and the sea.

Several of our crewed catamarans sail the Greek islands, ready to show you the Ionian’s emerald calm from the deck.

Ionian Yacht Charters

A crewed catamaran is the ideal way to explore the Ionian’s sheltered waters. The short, calm hops between islands mean more time swimming and less time under pressure — perfect for families, multi-generational groups, and anyone who wants their holiday to feel like one.

Your crew handles everything; you simply choose the next bay.

Ionian Yacht Charter Highlights

Greece offers some of the most rewarding sailing in the world — thousands of islands, three thousand years of seafaring history, and anchorages that range from glamorous to gloriously remote.

Glide the tender into luminous blue grottoes along Paxos’s western cliffs, accessible only from the water.

Anchor off one of Greece’s most spectacular beaches, a crescent of white sand beneath towering cliffs.

The Ionian’s prettiest harbour village, untouched by earthquakes and full of waterfront tavernas.

Tuck into the quiet bays of Meganisi, where you may have an entire anchorage to yourselves.

Drop anchor off the island Homer made immortal, and swim in the bays where Odysseus is said to have returned.

7 Days in the Ionian

A relaxed week of short, calm sailing through the green heart of the Ionian — easily tailored by your crew.

Welcome aboard in Corfu’s Gouvia marina, then a relaxed sail south to Paxos. Anchor in Lakka — a circular bay of olive-green water — for a first quiet evening.

A very short morning hop to Antipaxos, often called the Caribbean of Greece for its translucent water. Swim from the boat over white-sand sea floor.

Sail south to Lefkas. Anchor at Vasiliki — a steady afternoon breeze for windsurfers, calm for everyone else by sundown.

A short hop to the Meganisi islets — a maze of tiny coves with goats on the cliffs above. A different bay each evening if you wish.

Sail south-east to Fiskardo on Kefalonia — the most picturesque port in the Ionian, untouched by the 1953 earthquake. Dinner ashore on the quay.

A short crossing to Ithaca, Odysseus’s home. Anchor at Vathy or in one of the small coves of Polis Bay for an unhurried day.

A final relaxed passage back to Corfu with one last swim along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ionian offers calm, sheltered waters and short hops between green islands, making it ideal for families, first-time charterers and relaxed cruising. The Cyclades are more dramatic and windier, suited to confident sailors. If your priority is ease, comfort and swimming over spectacle, the Ionian is the better choice.

Exceptionally so. The light winds, short distances and sheltered anchorages make it one of the most family-friendly cruising grounds in the Mediterranean. Children can swim safely, and the gentle sailing keeps everyone comfortable.

May to October. The Ionian stays calm throughout, even in peak summer, making July and August far more pleasant here than in the windy Cyclades. June and September offer the best balance of warmth and quiet.

Most begin in Corfu or Lefkada, both served by airports with good European connections. Our team coordinates transfers and can arrange private aviation.

Gentle and forgiving. Winds are typically light, distances short, and waters protected — relaxed cruising rather than performance sailing.

They are on opposite sides of Greece, so combining both in one charter requires a longer voyage and some open-water passages. Our team can design a crossing itinerary, or recommend focusing on one for a shorter trip.
