Odyssea Yachting’s collaboration with Karukera Apnée brings free-diving excursions to the yacht charter world. Free-dive for fun or get certified while enjoying the privacy of chartering a catamaran in warm Caribbean waters.
The team will take you to a secluded beach near where your yacht is anchored and teach you the basics — breath control, equalisation, and the all-important letting go — for about an hour. Then you head out to sea for depth sessions: free immersion (descending with a rope and the strength of your arms), constant weight (descending and ascending with fins), and variable weight (descending with a weight, ascending with fins). Each technique is designed for smooth progression to depths up to 30 meters at your own pace.
Beyond freediving, the team runs full-day spearfishing experiences — introductory sessions, reef hunts along Guadeloupe’s east coast for jack, sardine and wahoo, and blue-water sessions for tuna and mahi-mahi in the open ocean.

Introduced to spearfishing and underwater hunting by his father at a young age, John quickly set his sights on a career at sea. He became a professional spearfisherman, building solid expertise through years of passion-driven experience and developing extensive knowledge of the marine environment and the diverse species inhabiting Caribbean waters.
Trained as a freediving instructor and certified with the BPJEPS diploma in freediving under the mentorship of Antoine Maestracci and Pierre Frolla, John shares his skills and love for the ocean through Karukera Apnée — the school he founded to bring serious, respectful freediving and spearfishing to private guests.
