Wake up to the sound of the ocean, sail to the surf spots of Guadeloupe and end the day with sunset from your private deck. Yohan “Tiyo” Jean — who represented Guadeloupe at national and international events and now runs his own surf school, Passion Surf Guadeloupe — reads the swell with you and matches the break to your level.
A surf trip on a crewed catamaran combines catching waves with the freedom of exploring the coastline. The yacht moves with the swell, so you stay where conditions are best — Guadeloupe’s Grande-Terre coast first, further afield when the forecast points there.
Mornings are usually first light at the break — paddle out before the wind builds and work on technique with Yohan. Afternoons are for a second session, snorkelling on rest days, or moving the boat to wherever the forecast looks better.
The yacht crew remain focused on hospitality, navigation and anchoring you in the right place. Yohan stays focused on you and the water. The week usually starts from Bas-du-Fort Marina in Pointe-à-Pitre and is always adapted to the actual conditions on the day.
Surfer since the age of four, founder of Passion Surf Guadeloupe and your guide for the Caribbean leg of our surf safari programme.
The son of a passionate surfer, Yohan — Tiyo to everyone who knows him — grew up between warm sand, powerful waves and surfboards. He was in the water from the age of four, drawn by the energy of Guadeloupe’s waves; family legend has it he was surfing before he was even born.
He went on to compete on the surf circuit, representing Guadeloupe at national and international events and crossing paths with some of the best-known names in Caribbean surfing. Those years as a high-level athlete gave him discipline, determination and a generous way of passing the sport on.
Today he runs Passion Surf Guadeloupe, his surf school in the heart of Grande-Terre — a place to learn, but also to share, built on surfing’s core values: freedom, respect, awareness and pushing past your limits. Children and adults, locals and visitors, the aim is the same for everyone: to discover the ocean in a way that is human, safe and inspiring.
