Dune House — the house Chad Oppenheim built on a dune above Pink Sands Beach, on Harbour Island in the Bahamas — is a single long pavilion of timber and white walls whose sides fold away entirely, so that living room, dining table and decks sit open to the trade wind with the Atlantic in front and the palm garden behind.
There is no pool, no cinema and no gym, by design: the house is about the beach, the sunrise over the water and the quiet of a private dune. Five bedrooms sleep twelve, a private path leads down to the sand, and a beach attendant sets up the palapa, the loungers and the towels each morning.
Five bedrooms and five bathrooms, in the pavilion and the garden wings, for up to twelve guests. White rooms in louvred light, linen beds, stone bathrooms with walk-in showers, and an outdoor shower built into the dune vegetation for rinsing off after the sea.
The living pavilion opens on both sides onto wide timber decks with architectural daybeds, sun loungers and an al fresco dining table set for the sunrise. Below the deck, a fire pit on the rocks faces the ocean for the evening.
A property manager and personal concierge, a daily housekeeping team, and a dedicated groundskeeper and beach attendant look after the house and the beach set-up. A private chef and provisioning can be arranged through the concierge.
Rates are per night; the minimum stay depends on the season — ask our villa expert.
Harbour Island sits off the north-east tip of Eleuthera in the Bahamas: a three-mile pink-sand beach on the Atlantic side, golf carts instead of cars, and Dunmore Town’s pastel houses and restaurants at its centre. Dune House stands on the dune above the beach, reached by a private path.
We represent three more houses on Harbour Island: Villa Rosalita, Villa Doubles and Villa King’s Crown.
